The section about insulation caught my attention, especially the point about improving the home before upgrading the heating system. One thing that can get missed is that insulation work can also expose areas where heat is escaping around loft hatches, pipe penetrations, or gaps around the ceiling. Those small gaps can undermine otherwise good insulation. We see the same issue when assessing homes where the insulation looks adequate at first glance, but the air leakage tells a different story.
