Renting privately? You may still qualify for free energy-saving home improvements.

It’s a common myth that only homeowners can benefit from free energy efficiency upgrades. In fact, if you’re a private tenant, you could still be eligible for government-funded support—even if you don’t own the property.
What Are Private Tenants Eligible For?
Schemes like ECO4 are designed to help low-income and vulnerable households, including those who rent from private landlords. If you're eligible, you may be able to access:
✅ Wall and loft insulation
✅ Heating system upgrades
✅ Smart controls for better energy use
✅ A free EPC assessment if needed
Even better, you don’t have to figure this out alone—Home Heating Hub will guide you through it.
But What About My Landlord?
To carry out any improvements, we’ll need the landlord’s permission. That’s where our team can step in—we’ll explain the benefits to them and ensure they’re comfortable with the process. The good news? These improvements could even increase the property’s value. In some cases Landlords will have to contribute to the cost.
As a tenant, you don’t pay for the upgrades or the assessment—it’s all covered by the schemes we assess you for.
Who Qualifies?
You may be eligible if you:
✅ Rent from a private landlord (not council or housing association)
✅ Receive income-related benefits, such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit
✅ Live in a home with an EPC rating of E, F, or G
✅ Struggle with high heating costs or a cold home
